Old Town Frankfurt: Frankfurter Römer (centered in the painting) is a medieval building that has been the city hall in the square for over 600 years. Frankfurt as a city contains a rich mixture of old and new architecture. There are dozens of skyscrapers, but there are also quaint sections of old Frankfurt like this one down by the river. Old cathedrals can be found tucked into town squares like the one shown here: Alte Nikolaikirche (Old Saint Nicholas Church). Römerberg town square is surrounded by picturesque townhouses that showcase typical German architecture, similar to Tudor houses with stucco and timber. While painting here, a fellow watercolorist came up and talked with me for awhile and in the end asked to buy my whole outfit. I told him I had to finish the painting first!
